Chan has been hailed a star of the new generation from Hong Kong and the 23 years old has to prove herself on the international stage with more and more opportunities following the retirement of Rebecca Chiu.
Chiu, Hong Kong's best player over the last decade, is fading out her player career after helping Hong Kong to a silver medal in the team event at last year's Asian Games in Guangzhou. While teammate Annie Au has already broken into the world's top 10, Chan must rise to the occasion when the chances come.
Other than capturing a team silver and an individual bronze at the Guangzhou Games, Chan also won the China Open and Hong Kong's Chairman's Cup (3) in 2010. This year, she reached the semifinals of the Bocadel Rio in June.
Chan has made steady progress since turning full-time training a couple of years ago and is expected to mount challenges to the world's best players soon.
