Hong Kong To Host 2014 World Masters

The World Squash Federation (WSF) confirmed today that the 2014 WSF World Masters Squash Championships have been awarded to Hong Kong, China.

To be held from 4-12 July 2014, the Championships will include men's and women's events in some 18 age groups for players aged from 35 to over 80.

The announcement comes on the eve of the 2012 Championships, which will be staged in the English city of Birmingham from 20-27 July.

The 2014 Championships will be staged at the Hong Kong Squash Centre and the prestigious Hong Kong Football Club, both located in heart of the city.

David Mui, MH JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash, stated: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring this fabulous World event to Hong Kong and are confident that players and spectators will appreciate the first-class venues and vibrancy of our great city."

World Masters Squash Championships Hong Kong Event Director Malcolm Kerr added: "Masters Squash has fantastic worldwide participation and support. We expect to welcome around 1,000 athletes from more than 50 countries in 2014 for what will be a true festival of the sport. In addition to the excitement of competition we will be offering fun social events throughout the event, making this a week not to be missed."

Andrew Shelley, CEO of WSF, concluded: "We believe that Hong Kong is the perfect venue for the WSF World Masters Squash Championships. Each year we have seen squash in Hong Kong going from strength to strength. HKG took 1 gold, 3 silver & 6 bronze medals in the Asian Junior Championships

Congratulation to our top junior Ho Tze-Lok who won the Girls under-17 title in the 19th Asian Junior Individual Championships held in Iran. Altogether we won ten medals in this event including Cheng Nga-Ching, Choi Uen-Shan and Ho Ka-Po won silver medals. Congratulations to the players and the coaches!

Being held in Iran, the 19th Asian Junior Individual Championships 2012 see HK's Cheng Nga-Ching and Ho Ka-Po reached the GU13 & GU19 finals respectively. While GU17 final will be an all HK affair after Choi Uen-Shan defeated second seed Vanessa Raj in 4 games. Choi will face her team-mate Ho Tze-Lok in the final to secure at least one gold medal for HK!

Crocodile/ HK Squash Sponsorship Signing Ceremony

(12 June) In a press conference held earlier today at the flagship store of Crocodile Garments in Central, Mr. David Mui MH JP, Chairman of HK Squash received a cheque of amount $380,000 from Ms. Vanessa Lam, Executive Director and Deputy CEO of Crocodile Garments, being sponsorship for three major squash tournaments in 2012, namely the Crocodile Hong Kong Squash Championships (with final matches on 16 June), the Crocodile Squash Challenge Cup (27 Aug - 2 Sep) and the HK Squash Open (25 Nov - 2 Dec) organized by Hong Kong Squash. This is the 8th year that Crocodile has sponsored our major events.

Liu won her second WSA title in Perth

(28 May) Congratulations to our young woman player, Liu Tsz Ling, who has just won WA title in Perth, Australia. Liu was top seed in the tournament, captured her second WSA title as she beat second seed Amanda Landers-Murphy from New Zealand. We wish her every success in her squash career.

HK Players' breakthrough in British Open

(17 May) Our top woman player, Annie Au, has reached the quarter-final of the British Open, a WSA Platinum Event, for the first time. Earlier Max Lee, our top man player and also the first Hong Kong player who got through to the main draw from qualification, lost to the world champion Nick Matthew after a long and tough match. Congratulations to our players and wish Annie good luck in her coming matches.

HKSSF Inter-School Squash Team Competition 2011/2012

 

(14 May) Congratulations to La Salle College, Heep Yunn School and Jockey Club Ti-I College who once again retained the HK Island & Kowloon Boy's Team Champion, HK Island & Kowloon Girl's Team Champion, and NT Boy's & Girl's team Double Champion respectively at the "HK School Sports Federation Inter-school Squash Team Competition 2011/2012" held on last Sunday.

La SalleCollege defeated Diocesan Boys' School 3-2 in the HK Island & Kowloon Boy's final while Heep Yunn School won over Diocesan Girls School 3-0 in Girl's final. While in NT region, Jockey Club Ti-I College beat Shatin Government Secondary School 4-1 in Boy's final and defeated Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School 2-1 in Girl's final to defend the NT Double Champion.

2011 Asian Squash Federation Awards

During the 16th Asian Team Championships held in Kuwait, the following Hong Kong coaches and athletes were presented the 2011 Asian Squash Federation Awards for their achievements in the past year.

1. Mr Tony Choi (Head Coach) received the ASF Coach of the Year Award.
2. HK Junior Women Team received the ASF Outstanding Women's Team of the Year.
3. HK Men Team received the ASF Most Improved Men's Team of the Year.

HK players reached the highest world ranking

 

 

(4 May) Congratulations to Annie Au, our top woman player who climbed up to World No. 6 -- the highest world ranking for Hong Kong women player so far. And Joey Chan, is currently ranked 16. For the men's world ranking, we have two players in the top 70 -- Max Lee (ranked 36) & Leo Au (ranked 61). We wish all of them further advancement in their squash career in 2012.

(30 Apr) Congratulations to Hong Kong Squash Centre Regional, Kwun Chung Sports Centre District Squad and Po Kong Village Road Sports Centre District Squad who won the team champion of the "55th Festival of Sport Inter-regional/ Inter-district Junior Squash Competition 2012" respectively held on 14, 15, 21, 22 & 28 April 2012 at Cornwall Street Squash & Table Tennis Centre.
