Celebration dinner

(23 Nov) To celebrate the remarkable achievements of our players in the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2011, Mr. David Mui JP, Chairman of HK Squash, hosted a dinner last night for the players and their coaches led by Head Coach, Tony Choi. We were very honoured to have Dr. York Chow, Secretary for Food & Health, and Dr. Trisha Leahy, Chief Executive of the HK Sports Institute, joining the dinner and offering their support and encouragement to the squash team. Congratulations again!

(20 Nov) Tonight in the finals of the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2011 held in a state-of-the-art glass court erected in front of the Victoria Harbour. Defending champion Malaysia's Nicol David won 7th-in-row included the 2005 World Championships held here in HK. In the women's final, world no. 1 Nicol David defeated Egypt's Raneem El Weleily 3-0. In the men's, the third seed James Willstrop beats Karim Darwish in straight games to win his first title in HK. David reach the Final

 


(19 Nov) Annie Au Wing-Chi is outplayed by the current World Champion Nicol David in the glass squash court in front of the Victoria Harbour tonight. Though she has a good start of having the first game up, she finally lost 1-3. After giving a tough and physical game to Annie, Nicol will play against the Egyptian rising star, Raneem El Weleily who beats Low Wee Wern 3-1 in the semis. For the mens, the third seed James Willstrop beats Gregory Gaultier in straight games to gain his ever-first ticket for the final of Hong Kong Open. (18 Nov) Annie Au Wing-Chi makes the history, not once, but twice, after her victory over the world number 5 Rachael Grinham in 5-sets. She is the first Hong Kong player to reach the semi-finals of the Open and it's the first time for her to play in the glass court at Hong Kong Cultural Centre against the famous Victoria Harbour (let's finger cross for a good weather!). Au & Chan reach the quarter-finals of the Open

 


(17 Nov) First time for Hong Kong to have 2 local players in the quarter-finals of the Open. With the support of the homies, Joey Chan Ho-Ling will join her fellow player, Annie Au Wing-Chi to play in the quarters after defeating the world No. 6 Kasey Brown in straight games. Earlier today, Annie also beat her rival Joelle King in 3-1, who will meet Rachael Grinham, the seed No. 3 and Joey will meet Raneem El Weleily at tomorrow's Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Squash Open 2011. The big upset today is the straight loss of the world No. 2 Jenny Duncalf to Low Wee Wern. For the mens, Nick Matthew and James Willstrop both advance to the quarter-finals. (12 Nov) The Hong Kong no. 2 woman player, Joey Chan Ho-ling, has reached the final in the Macau Open beating Delia Arnold from Malaysia in five sets. Joey played very well in the tournament and we wish her all the best in her final match tomorrow.

HK won the HKSI Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards

(10 Nov) Congratulations to our girls' team (Ho Ka Po, Lee Ka Yi, Ho Tze Lok and Choi Uen Shan) won the "ZESPRI Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards - 3rd Quarter 2011" in recognition of their excellent achievement in the World Junior Women's Team Championship held in Boston, USA in July.

HK Squash 50th Anniversary Cup

 

(24 Oct) The horse "Double Luck" won the Hong Kong Squash 50th Anniversary Cup yesterday at the Happy Valley Racecourse. Mr David Mui JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Squash, thanked the Hong Kong Jockey Club again for granting the cup race and the many special guests coming to support the function including Dr York Chow, GBS JP - Secretary for Food & Health, Mr Pang Chung, SBS - Hon. Secretary General of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of HK, China and Mr Anthony Chow, SBS JP - HK Jockey Club Steward. Upon completion of the race, Mr Mui presented trophies to the horse owners Cheung Ka Wai & Cheng Chor Kit and Mr John Wong, Vice Chairman, presented the trophies to the trainer K L Man and rider M L Yeung.

(17 Oct) Mr David Mui, MH JP, Chairman of HK Squash, was honoured to host a lunch for receiving Mr Yu Zai Qing, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee from China, and Mr Pang Chung, SBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. At the function, Mr Yu reiterated his support for Hong Kong's participation in major games and he also confirmed squash to be a competition event in the 2013 Tianjin East Asian Games. Mr Mui on behalf of the Association thanked Mr Yu for his presence and also thanked Mr Pang for arranging the meeting.

(17 Oct) Congratulation to all Champions in HKSSF Inter-school Squash Individual Competition 2011/12 held on last Saturday.

For Boys event,
Yip Tsz Fung beat Ho Tze Ho 3-0 in A Grade, Lo Cheuk Hin Chris beat Yuen Tsun Hei 3-0 in B Grade and Chu Kwok Kee beat Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew 3-0 in C Grade.

For Girls event, Ho Ka Po beat Ho Tze Lok 3-2 in A Grade. Choi Uen Shan beat Chan Pansy Pui Hei 3-2 in B Grade whilst Ho Ka Wing beat Lui Man Yin 3-0 in C Grade.

Lee reached the semi-final of Valencia Open

 

(7 Oct) Congratulations to Max Lee, our top men's player, who reached the semi-final of the Valencia Open in Spain after beating Chris Simpson (ranked 51 in the world) of England -- a major upset in the top 16 and Campbell Grayson of New Zealand in the quarter-finals. Annie, our top full-time elite athlete, is now playing in the US Open and has just beaten the Egyptian player, Omneya Abdel Kawy (7th seed in the tournament) in straight games.
